Creative Power
These exercises and approaches can help strengthen your creativity and foster new, innovative ideas. Experiment with them and find out which ones suit you best.
- Free writing – helps to discover hidden thoughts and ideas:
Sit down and write continuously for a set period of time (e.g. 10-15 minutes). - Meditation and mindfulness – promote conscious perception:
Practice regular meditation (silent meditation, guided meditation, walking meditation…) to calm the mind and make space for creative thoughts. - Time for boredom – creative ideas often arise in the moment of rest:
Deliberately create times when you do nothing to leave space for spontaneous thoughts and ideas. Really nothing – no reading, no mobile phone, no television, etc. - The power of words – How do you talk (to yourself)?
Which words do you use often and do they tend to constrict you or let you breathe freely? - Try to replace the words “I must…”, “I should…” with “I will…”, “I can…” and “I may…” from time to time.
Check whether instead of an “either…or…” a relaxed “both…and…” might not be possible. This will open you up to new possibilities.
Gradually replace negative self-talk with loving, appreciative and kind words. Treat yourself as you would a good friend or friend of yours. - Collages and vision boards – visualising visions:
Collect pictures, words and materials that represent your goals and dreams. Hang it somewhere where you will see it as often as possible during the day.
